While it often feels like a cosmetic inconvenience, persistent dryness indicates a compromised skin barrier, and managing it properly requires understanding what is actually happening in the skin, not just which moisturizer to buy.

Xerosis occurs when this lipid matrix is depleted or disrupted, causing increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) – water evaporating through the skin rather than staying in it. Step 1 – Gentle Cleanser or Water-Only Rinse
Avoid foaming cleansers with sulfates (sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate) in the morning. If your skin was not heavily soiled overnight, a plain water rinse is sufficient. If you prefer a cleanser, choose a cream or lotion formula containing glycerin or ceramides, and use lukewarm water – not hot. Pat dry with a soft towel, leaving skin slightly damp.
Step 2 – Hydrating Toner or Essence (Optional but Useful)
